Bread Baker
Overview
The Bread Baker plays a key role, producing high-quality artisan bread for our retail locations, catering operations, and wholesale clients. This position involves hands-on production of a variety of breads, including sourdough, baguettes, focaccia, and specialty loaves, using traditional techniques. Working within a collaborative team, the Bread Baker is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship, efficiency, and consistency under the Head Bread Baker’s direction.
This is a dynamic role in a high-volume production environment, requiring attention to detail, excellent time management, and a commitment to delivering exceptional results. The Bread Baker will also contribute to maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient kitchen workspace.
Key Responsibilities
- Bread Production: Prepare, mix, shape, proof, and bake a variety of breads, adhering to established recipes and quality standards.
- Process Management: Working alongside the Head Bread Baker, helping to oversee fermentation, proofing, and baking processes to optimize efficiency and maintain consistent quality.
- Quality Control: Monitor ingredients, dough consistency, and finished product to ensure adherence to company standards. Report to the Head Bread Baker if there are any issues.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain mixers, ovens, proofers, and other baking equipment.
- Hygiene and Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Inventory Management: Assist in communicating inventory needs as well as managing inventory of baking ingredients and supplies.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the kitchen team and delivery staff to meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute ideas for improving processes, recipes, and workflow efficiency.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of professional bread baking experience, preferably in a high-volume environment.
- Expertise in traditional bread-making techniques, including sourdough fermentation.
- Strong understanding of baking science and ingredient functionality.
- Ability to work efficiently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Effective communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
